Autism and RDI
Development starts at home, in the day-to-day interactions between parent and child. Parent and child interactions lay the foundation for success in key areas such as communication, social competence and independence. For children with autism, who process and engage with the world differently, this foundational relationship may not develop in the same way as it does in typically growing children.
To bridge this gap, Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®) has emerged as a solution. RDI places the focus on strengthening parent-child interactions through guided participation. By prioritizing this relationship, RDI not only enhances skill development but also builds the cognitive, social and emotional foundations that are essential for meaningful, long-term progress.
RDI® stands out from many other interventions because it works to develop the child’s drive to engage with life and the people in their environment. It enhances the child’s sense of self, thought processes, and relationships, thereby addressing the life skills required to lead an independent, happy and fulfilling life.
